Influence of Cycocel and Micronutrients On Oil Content and Peel Thickness of Kagzi Lime (Citrus Aurantifolia Swingle)

The present investigation entitled, “Effect of Cycocel and Micronutrients on Fruit Setting of Kagzi Lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle),” was carried out during 2023–2024 at the Rainfed Research Sub-Station for Sub-Tropical Fruits (RRSS), Raya, SKUAST-Jammu, J&K (UT). The study aimed to evaluate the impact of Cycocel (CCC), a plant growth regulator and essential micronutrients on the oil content and peel thickness of Kagzi lime, a citrus species highly valued for its aromatic oil and bioactive compounds. Kagzi lime oil finds widespread application in the food and beverage, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and aromatherapy industries and also serves as a natural pesticide in organic farming. Field experiments were conducted using various treatments to assess changes in essential oil yield, composition and peel characteristics. Among the treatments, Cycocel at 1000 ppm combined with ZnSO4 at 0.3% (T6) significantly enhanced oil quality and peel thickness. This treatment resulted in higher total linalool (0.93%), geraniol (1.46%), citronellol (0.66%) contents and improved peel thickness (1.85 mm). These findings provide insights into improving the phytochemical profile of Kagzi lime, which is important for value addition in multiple industrial applications due to the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties of its constituents.
