<p>The type III secretion system (T3SS) is essential for <i>Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum</i> to infect host plants. Transcription of the T3SS genes was not activated in nutrient-rich casamino acid-peptone-glucose (CPG) broth, but activated in a minimal medium that might mimic metabolic signals of the host plant. CPG broth at 5% substantially impaired expression of T3SS genes. In tests of T3SS gene expression, <span>l</span>-lysine was found to be a novel inhibitor of expression of T3SS genes in non-acidic conditions and significantly impaired their expression via a PrhG-HrpB pathway and their motility and biofilm formation, which are also important for pathogenicity, and led to significant inhibition of symptom development in tomato plants.</p>
