摘要

Background

Digitization leads to fundamental changes in sexual communication and interaction possibilities. While the internet offers new opportunities for education and therapeutic interventions, new forms of sexual dysfunction are emerging simultaneously. Digital health applications (DiGAs) are developing as a promising therapeutic option, but currently show insufficient consideration of the relationship dimension.

Objectives

A critical analysis of the effects of digital technologies on sexual function and a presentation of current therapeutic approaches, including a differentiated examination of DiGAs regarding their consideration of the partnership dimension.

Materials and Methods

A narrative review based on current literature relating to digitized concepts of sexuality, findings in sexual medicine, and a critical evaluation of available studies and regulatory frameworks for digital interventions in sexual dysfunctions.

Results

The digital age leads to a polarization of sexual experiences, with an overemphasis on the dimension of desire alongside insufficient attention to the relationship dimension. New disorders such as pornography use-induced erectile disorder require adapted therapeutic concepts. The analysis shows that DiGAs primarily address individual functional parameters, while sexual dysfunctions often have relational components.

Conclusion

Syndyastic sex therapy as a couple oriented intervention of sexual medicine focuses on the relationship dimension. Affective neuroscience confirms the biological basis of this approach. DiGAs currently show insufficient consideration of this dimension. This structural limitation calls for further development of intervention approaches.
