<p>Animal foraging behavior involves a variety of perceptual processes ranging from detection of food presence to consumption. In this study, we investigated the relative importance of visual, olfactory and tactile stimuli in the feeding behavior, specifically in the final foraging stage, known as the food evaluation phase, of the lesser moray eel (<i>Gymnothorax minor</i>), a predatory species that relies primarily on olfaction for foraging. In a controlled tank environment, we exposed the moray to eight different treatment combinations, incorporating variations in visual, olfactory and tactile cues. The results showed that the moray exhibited a higher frequency of biting behavior towards baits with soft tactile properties, while visual and olfactory cues had no significant effect on biting behavior. We concluded that tactile stimuli are of paramount importance in the feeding decision process, even in the lesser moray eel, which typically relies on olfactory and visual cues for detection of food presence and foraging.</p>
