Exploring an intelligent product service system for early cognitive intervention for Alzheimer’s disease

This paper presents an intelligent product service system model for early Alzheimer’s disease cognitive intervention. It integrates four functional modules into an interactive system to provide a full range of cognitive intervention services. We conducted user research based on questionnaires, unstructured interviews and user journey maps; comprehensively analysed user needs; and employed the analytic hierarchy process to rank the importance of the obtained needs and explore pain points. A service system diagram, service blueprint and other design methods were used to organise the early intervention intelligent products for Alzheimer’s patients, from which a product service model was built. This multidisciplinary cognitive intervention therapy system is integrated into the product in the form of interactions between people and between people and products. Through the service procedure design, family members, friends and others are encouraged to join patients’ cognitive training. While providing patients with high-tech cognitive intervention training, they enjoy increased social interactions, obtain mental and emotional satisfaction and actively accept the intervention. Early intervention in human–computer interaction (HCI) and system design of smart products is a critical demand for this type of product. This solution helps patients expand their physical exercise range through cognitive intervention, build the functional structure of early intervention smart products, determine its form of expression and HCI method, and realise intervention training while strengthening the emotional connection between patients and others. In addressing these issues, we hope to provide feasible product design methods and strategies for future product researchers and designers in this field.
