From green HR to environmental excellence: the synergistic impact of green HRM and big data analytics from manufacturing industry

This study investigates the synergistic role of green human resource management practices (GHRMP) and big data analytics capability (BDAC) in enhancing green competitive advantage (GCA) and environmental performance (EP) in Pakistan`s manufacturing sector. Grounded in Resource Dependence Theory and the natural resource-based view, this study provides a robust theoretical foundation. Hypotheses were developed based on a comprehensive review of the literature. A quantitative research design was employed, gathering cross-sectional data from 522 responses across 500 small- and medium-sized enterprises with multiple responses collected from each firm to ensure comprehensive insights. The results highlight that the integration of GHRMP and BDAC is crucial for fostering sustainable organizational practices and enhancing competitiveness. Specifically, the findings demonstrate that GHRMP practices such as green recruitment, training and development, performance management, and green transformational leadership, combined with BDAC, significantly enhance GCA and EP. These findings offer valuable insights for managers aiming to implement green initiatives in HR practices, thus contributing to both environmental sustainability and competitive advantage. However, the study’s limitations include its cross-sectional nature and focus on Pakistan’s manufacturing sector, which may not fully represent other sectors or regions.
