An investigation on the influence of new infrastructure construction on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction
摘要
The construction of new infrastructure and the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction are the prerequisites for building a beautiful China. Examining and discerning the internal correlation between the two is crucial for China to accomplish a superior economic and social transformation and advancement. This work utilizes the entropy weight method to compute the degree of maturation of new infrastructure construction and utilizes the coupling coordination model to examine the index of synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction. The study employs data from the province panel in China, which spans from 2011 to 2023, to investigate the influence of developing new infrastructure construction on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction. Three models are used: baseline regression, intermediate effects, and threshold regression. The findings indicate that firstly, the development of new infrastructure construction has a substantial and beneficial influence on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction. This impact exhibits a distinct pattern of “Eastern > Western > Central”; secondly, the construction of new infrastructure can indirectly facilitate the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction by improving the rationalization of industrial structure and improving the level of environmental regulation; finally, considering the attributes of regional diversity, new infrastructure construction exerts varying threshold effects on the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction. Given the conditions of a more reasonable industrial structure and the intensity of environmental regulation is greater, new infrastructure construction has a more positive contribution in advancing the development of the synergistic effect of pollution reduction and carbon reduction. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of environmental advantages of constructing new infrastructure and offer valuable insights for supporting such buildings and implementing effective pollution and carbon emissions reduction measures.
