A systematic review of assisted reality applications in manufacturing

The review considers the present-day applications of assisted reality headsets, which have become an effective tool for the information support of industrial enterprise employees due to their adaptation to complex operating conditions. Assisted reality (aR) is a technology that allows users to see information on an opaque display that partially obscures their view. The review is based on a synthesis of open source information and focuses on the headset features in terms of ergonomic design and usability, computational and operational capabilities dictated by the industrial environment. It demonstrates the efficacy of aR headsets in a range of scenarios such as monitoring, quality control, remote support, maintenance, training, even when compared to the most promising augmented reality HMDs. The review also looks at how aR headsets can be developed with particular attention to the areas of human–machine interaction, tracking, indoor navigation, IIoT integration, and enhancing manufacturing through artificial intelligence.
