Resilienz – eine Kernkompetenz in der Notfallmedizin?
摘要
Emergency medical staff are continuously exposed to high physical and psychological stress, which is intensified by shiftwork, time pressure, staff shortages, and ethical conflicts. Critical or adverse events—such as severe or dramatic deaths, complicated courses, acts of violence, suicides, or mass casualty incidents—can cause acute psychological stress and have potentially traumatizing effects. Despite high levels of resilience and well-developed coping strategies, frequent exposure to such stressors increases the risk of mental health disorders among medical personnel. Resilience refers to the ability to cope effectively with stress, but it is not a static personality trait and cannot be enhanced through simple, short-term training interventions. Effective resilience promotion in emergency medicine requires a systemic approach that strengthens both individual competencies and resources while also fostering favorable working conditions and psychosocial support within the team. However, such programs cannot replace the value of daily learning within the team and under realistic working conditions. Sustainable resilience promotion can only be achieved by interlinking individual resources with organizational structures, in order to safeguard long-term mental health and maintain the commitment of staff in this highly demanding field. The aim of this article is to situate the concept of resilience within the context of stressors in emergency medicine to provide a deeper understanding of the term and to outline concrete approaches to promoting resilience.
