Background <p>There are differing opinions among various professional associations and societies regarding the introduction of a&#xa0;specialist title for emergency medicine in Germany. The aim of this survey was to assess the attitudes of the emergency medicine junior professionals on this topic.</p> Aim <p>This study examines the perspective of medical students and training assistants on a&#xa0;specialist title in emergency medicine.</p> Methods <p>An online survey (<a href="http://www.empirio.de">www.empirio.de</a>) was conducted with a&#xa0;total of nine questions targeted at medical students and training assistants of the Young Emergency Medicine of the Association of Emergency Physicians in North Rhine-Westphalia. Participation was voluntary and anonymous.</p> Results <p>A&#xa0;total of 198 individuals (53% male) primarily from the age group of 21–30&#xa0;years (70%) participated in the survey. The majority, with 85.4% of respondents, support the introduction of a&#xa0;specialist in emergency medicine. The respondents emphasize the importance of aspects such as training, working time models, remuneration, and career prospects. The emergency medicine junior professionals particularly express a&#xa0;desire for structured training, individualized working time models, and appropriate remuneration. A&#xa0;forward-looking approach to address existing shortages in primary care is to allow physicians who have completed a specialist qualification in emergency medicine to subsequently establish themselves as general practitioners.</p> Conclusion <p>The present survey demonstrates the strong desire among emergency medicine-interested students and training assistants for the introduction of a&#xa0;specialist in emergency medicine.</p>
