<p>Due to resource challenges, small and medium-sized companies can only conduct limited research into trend topics such as Digital Twins. Therefore, they are to a&#xa0;certain degree dependent on academic research. However, research in the context of academia might suffer from limited practical applicability in industry. A&#xa0;better knowledge of real-world challenges and needs by industry in the field of Digital Twins could bring academic research closer to reality. This contribution addresses this gap by analyzing and synthesizing 27&#xa0;existing surveys and interviews on the topic of Digital Twins. Trends and needs are analyzed from multiple perspectives to derive actions necessary for future development.</p>
