<p>Gear measurement technology serves as the cornerstone for evaluating gear quality. Traditionally, the quality of an entire curved surface was assessed based on point and line errors on that surface. In recent years, there has been a&#xa0;growing trend towards utilizing 3D measurement for controlling tooth surface quality, especially the line laser 3D measurement of gears. a&#xa0;single-spindle measuring instrument and a&#xa0;measuring model is introduced in this paper. In addition, three key issues encountered during the measurement process were emphasized, including the determination of the pose parameters of the line laser sensor, the measuring angle on the tooth surface, and the occlusion of measuring light by adjacent teeth. The experiment shows that the above research has guiding significance for the complete acquisition of three-dimensional data of the entire tooth surface.</p>
