Analysis of the influence of shape accuracy on the energy efficiency of roller chain joints
摘要
The contact between pin and bushing mainly determines the efficiency, but also the wear behavior of joint chains like roller chains. Since boundary friction predominantly occurs in chain joints, the conformity of the contact and thus the shape quality of the components has a major influence on the tribological system. The investigations carried out here show the significant influence of the joint quality on the tribological behavior under different load conditions and lubrication regimes. Wear rates can be significantly reduced by using components of high shape conformity and the service life can be increased by up to 13.3 times. High-quality chains also exhibit stable friction behavior, even with progressive wear. Optimizing the joint contact therefore offers great potential for increasing the service life and improving the sustainability of the tribological system by reducing friction and the amount of lubricant used.
