<p>Fuel cells have garnered considerable attention owing to high energy conversion efficiency, great flexibility, and environmental benignity. However, the further application of fuel cells is impeded by high cost, lower activity and inferior electrochemical stability. To address these challenges, significant research endeavors have been focused on catalysts design and optimization. In this review, contemporary advancements in fuel cell catalysts with a particular emphasis on modification strategies and application feasibility are systematically summarized and highlighted. Additionally, insightful perspectives, prevalent challenges and research orientations are proposed for further development of fuel cell catalysts.</p>
