摘要

The “Certified Vascular Centre” certification system, which has provided an external evaluation of structural, process and outcome quality since 2003, enjoys a high level of acceptance and visibility today.

The aim of this paper is to describe the development of the interdisciplinary certification system in its early years and its subsequent adaptation and progress, particularly with regard to the hospital reform in Germany.

Currently, 117 centres are certified, and centres in Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg have also been successfully assessed. In addition to improving the quality of structures and processes, scientific research has shown that certification has significantly improved the quality of care for patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms, peripheral arterial occlusive disease or carotid stenosis.

The certification system was further developed and accelerated through digitalisation of the application process. Furthermore, a vascular centre signet was developed to enhance the external impact and clarity of the certificate’s presentation. Efforts were made to secure a centre reimbursement via the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) centre regulation. Co-operation with the “White List” led to an improved public image and initial inclusion in the Federal Clinic Atlas. The review of the certification system due to the hospital reform by the Institute for Quality Assurance and Transparency in Health Care led to further development of the certification criteria, with the creation and publication of a statute and an evidence base for the certificate.

These optimisations and the anticipated structural changes as part of the hospital reform focusing on centralisation will lead to a continued positive development of the certification system and the “Certified Vascular Centre” brand.
