Background <p>Vascular surgical interventions during pregnancy are rare but represent a particular challenge due to physiological changes and ethical considerations.</p> Objective <p>Presentation of a&#xa0;case of a&#xa0;pregnant patient with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) dating from 2015 and an overview of current diagnostic and therapeutic options for arterial pathologies, such as acute limb ischemia, abdominal aortic aneurysm and type&#xa0;B aortic dissection.</p> Material and methods <p>Case-based clinical report combined with a&#xa0;selective literature review of relevant studies and case reports, with special emphasis on technical advancements such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS).</p> Results <p>The case illustrates a successful surgical treatment of stage IV PAD without complications for mother and child. The literature reflects the increasing options for interventional procedures, including IVUS as a&#xa0;radiation-free alternative.</p> Conclusion <p>With the rise in maternal age, an increase in vascular conditions during pregnancy is expected. Early interdisciplinary evaluation, strict indication criteria and targeted use of modern techniques are essential.</p>

Background

Vascular surgical interventions during pregnancy are rare but represent a particular challenge due to physiological changes and ethical considerations.

Objective

Presentation of a case of a pregnant patient with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) dating from 2015 and an overview of current diagnostic and therapeutic options for arterial pathologies, such as acute limb ischemia, abdominal aortic aneurysm and type B aortic dissection.

Material and methods

Case-based clinical report combined with a selective literature review of relevant studies and case reports, with special emphasis on technical advancements such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS).

Results

The case illustrates a successful surgical treatment of stage IV PAD without complications for mother and child. The literature reflects the increasing options for interventional procedures, including IVUS as a radiation-free alternative.

Conclusion
