The methodology for evidence assessment and recommendation generation varies considerably and the majority of recommendations are still based on expert opinions because insufficient high-quality level 1A evidence is available. Although many recommendations in the practice guidelines are similar, the S3&#xa0;guidelines from the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) contained numerous deviations, which underscores the necessity for assessment and application in the national context.</p>
