Eine Übersicht über die Auswirkungen des Klimawandels auf das Grundwasser in Deutschland und der Schweiz

This article provides an overview of research findings from 2020 to 2024 on the effects of climate change on groundwater resources in Germany and Switzerland. The selected 12 studies highlight the significant challenges for managing groundwater systems posed by altered precipitation patterns, rising temperatures, and extreme weather events. Projections indicate potential declines in groundwater levels in northern and eastern Germany, as well as increasing groundwater temperatures in alpine regions like Switzerland. These changes could have serious implications for ecosystems and water supply. However, the predictions are subject to large uncertainties due to the different climate scenarios and since models often only consider complex interrelationships such as land use changes and human interventions to a limited extent. Despite these uncertainties, the studies emphasize the need for sustainable management strategies. Further research and enhanced monitoring networks are necessary to reduce uncertainties and develop effective adaptation strategies.
