<p>Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with capability for identifying and quantifying analytes, offers a cost-effective and quick approach to inform about <i>Artemisia annua</i> leaf quality in the field. This paper outlines the extraction of artemisinin and its quantification using TLC coupled with image analyzers and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). For this purpose, the approach was validated using an artemisinin standard of concentrations, ranging from 2000&#xa0;to 100&#xa0;μg/mL, and the most reproducible of the settings assessed was applied to crude <i>A. annua</i> extracts. The results generated by JustTLC and TLC Analyzer were consistent with those from HPLC on applying corrective factors to account for systematic errors and/or differences in sensitivity of these analytical techniques, meaning these results compare well with HPLC.</p>
