摘要

Informal caregivers of cancer patients frequently suffer from substantial burden, psychological morbidities, and unmet support and information needs. These are more frequent in informal caregivers of patients with incurable diseases. Therefore, providing care for informal caregivers is recommended in patients with incurable diseases in oncologic guidelines. However, these needs and issues are also observed in clinically relevant proportions in informal caregivers of patients who are undergoing curative treatment or are cancer survivors, thus, highlighting the importance of providing caring for informal caregivers in oncology in these situations. Caring for informal caregivers can strengthen them as a sustainable supporter for the patients and reduce their own long-term morbidity regardless of the patients’ treatment intent. Systematic screening of informal caregivers’ needs in daily oncological practice can support timely identification of burdened informal caregivers to plan need-based multiprofessional support.
