Background <p>Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) enable the systematic and patient-centered assessment of symptoms, side effects and quality of life. In addition to their use in clinical trials, they are gaining increasing importance in routine oncological care; however, their systematic implementation in the clinical practice still remains the exception.</p> Objective <p>This article aims to illustrate the challenges and solution approaches for the electronic assessment of PROs (ePROs) in oncological practice using real-world implementation examples.</p> Material and methods <p>In this article five narrative examples from the Tirol Clinics/Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria, from various oncological disciplines exemplify how known challenges, such as the acceptance and motivation among healthcare professionals, are addressed.</p> Results <p>The ePROs were initially successfully piloted in all departments, whereby various discipline-specific solutions were developed and some have been established in the clinical routine for many years. A&#xa0;key success factor is the combination of strategic top-down support and practical department-specific bottom-up implementation by committed clinical teams. The examples demonstrate that ePROs can be integrated into diverse clinical workflows for both adult and pediatric patients.</p> Discussion <p>At the Tirol Clinics/Medical University of Innsbruck ePROs have been successfully implemented across multiple disciplines, enhancing oncological care through patient-centered symptom monitoring, early detection of complications and improved communication.</p>

Background

In addition to their use in clinical trials, they are gaining increasing importance in routine oncological care; however, their systematic implementation in the clinical practice still remains the exception.

Objective

This article aims to illustrate the challenges and solution approaches for the electronic assessment of PROs (ePROs) in oncological practice using real-world implementation examples.
