<p>Discussions on the cost of cancer usually refer to the costs of medications and treatments from the perspective of health insurance providers or society—the patient perspective is rarely considered. However, financial burdens for patients can take various objective and subjective forms and can have a&#xa0;negative impact on quality of life or even survival. There is currently no validated instrument in Germany to measure subjective financial burden that reflects the entire spectrum of stress. Although financial burden can have a&#xa0;negative impact on quality of life and survival, patients are afraid to discuss this topic with their treating physician.</p>
