Wenn das Schreckliche zu viel wird. Personzentrierte Psychotherapie mit traumatisierten Klient:innen
摘要
In this article, specific psychological processes following traumatic events are presented and linked to person-centered therapy theory.
The main focus is on understanding the experience of trauma-related disorders. The following main question introduces the respective aspects chronologically: What do clients experience after a traumatic experience?
In the first step, the topic of trauma is presented, what trauma is and how it occurs. The subjectivity of experience, which correlates with one’s own resilience, plays an important role. In the second step, the impact of the trauma on traumatized clients is outlined: which symptoms plague the traumatized people, which inner conflicts they experience, how the symbolization of what has happened in the self-concept succeeds or fails. And finally, phases of trauma management that arise in the beneficial therapeutic process are presented: stabilization, processing and integration are discussed chronologically, and the respective needs of the clients are shown in these phases.
These discussions focus on person-centered work with those affected by trauma. The basic therapeutic attitudes of the person-centered approach are presented as one of many options for supporting the clients’ processing of overwhelming experiences with trauma-related disorders.
The method used was an unsystematic literature search (“snowballing”) of both general and person-centered publications.
