N-Chlorosuccinimide-mediated synthesis of sulfonyl azides and N-sulfonyl heterocycles from sulfonyl hydrazides

We present a simple and efficient method to construct sulfonyl azides from sulfonyl hydrazides using N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) and trimethylsilyl azide (TMSN3), and N-sulfonyl heterocycles from readily available sulfonyl hydrazides using NCS in the presence of K2CO3. This approach is compatible with a broad range of sulfonyl hydrazides bearing various functional groups, affording good to excellent yields. The method is environmentally friendly, easy to execute, and operates under mild reaction conditions.
