摘要

In this study, raw and modified clays were used as catalysts. The structural characteristics of these materials were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. These catalysts were employed in the synthesis of various biscoumarin derivatives by reacting 4-hydroxycoumarin with different aromatic aldehydes. The products were obtained by refluxing in ethanol with excellent yields and in a very short time. Regarding reusability, the catalysts were easily recovered and reused for five consecutive cycles without any significant loss of activity. The resulting biscoumarins were purified by simple recrystallization from hot ethanol, eliminating the need for column chromatography to isolate the pure products.
