摘要

As surveys show, nonspecific therapies and placebos are frequently used in medical practice, both in adults and in children. However, this raises ethical concerns, as such interventions are administered without sufficient explanation and consent from the patients or their legal guardians. In some cases, however, placebos prescribed transparently (known as open-label placebos or OLPs), which are given without deception, can be effective. Studies conducted with children so far indicate that OLPs can help reduce symptoms in various conditions and support health-promoting behavior. However, parents tend to have polarized views regarding the use of OLPs. Therefore, providing sufficient information about this new placebo approach is a prerequisite for achieving positive effects.
