<p>It has long been recognized that obesity is a&#xa0;chronic disease that originates in early childhood and affects tens of thousands of children and adolescents in Austria. Until recently, there were virtually no relevant care structures in Austria. The “National Care Concept for Children and Adolescents with Overweight and Obesity”, a&#xa0;graduated overall concept for the care of children and adolescents who are overweight or obese in Austria, was presented in 2022. In addition to the already established specialized pediatric rehabilitation centers, the concept envisages two key new structural pillars throughout Austria: the creation of low-threshold lifestyle training programs, and the establishment of dedicated pediatric obesity centers where children and adolescents with (severe) obesity and existing comorbidities are treated. Although significant progress has already been made, essential steps are still required to achieve widespread coverage, both in the implementation of educational programs for children and adolescents and in pediatric obesity centers. Reimbursement of drug therapy in addition to lifestyle training through a&#xa0;clearly defined pilot project by social insurance companies is a&#xa0;further step toward better treatment for those affected.</p>
