<p>Dermatomycoses are amongst the most common globally spread infectious diseases in humans. Candidosis and dermatophytosis are differentiated based on the causative agent. In clinically language dermatophytosis of the skin, hair and nails is called Tinea. Besides Dermatophytes (e.g. Trichophyton‑, Epidermophyton- and Microsporum species) and Yeasts (Candida species) molds can cause tinea, with minor significance. Differential diagnosis may not be disregarded. Besides bacterial infections eccematic skin diseases have to be considered. Accordingly, careful microbiologic diagnosis before start of the therapy is essential. Mycoses only affecting the skin are treated with local therapy. Infections of nails and hair generally need systemic therapy mostly combined with local treatment.</p>
