Towards an extended BPMN for modeling and executing IoT-driven, policy-aware business processes

This paper discusses how to close the gap between two separate worlds referred to as Business Process (BP) and Internet of Things (IoT). The former captures organizations’ know-how like claim processing while the latter manages physical devices/things like sensors provisioning services to users. Building upon the Business Process Model Notation (BPMN), an OMG standard for BP modeling, the Web-of-Thing Thing Description (WoT-TD), a W3C standard for thing representation, and the Open Digital Rights Language (ODRL), a W3C recommendation for asset control, the paper introduces e
