Thermochromic polysaccharide-based materials and their smart applications
摘要
Polysaccharide-based thermochromic materials constitute a developing domain of research, offering considerable promise for novel applications in diverse scientific and technological disciplines. Polysaccharides, as sustainable, biologically compatible, and versatile biomaterials, can function as an effective matrix for integrating thermochromic agents, thereby facilitating temperature-responsive color transformations. Thermochromism is a chromogenic effect found in organic and inorganic substances, where exposure to external thermal stimuli causes a change in color that can either be reversed or remain permanent. This review offers a comprehensive analysis of the alteration of polysaccharide-based materials using different smart thermochromic substances, emphasizing their possible uses in sensors, smart windows, smart packaging, and anti-counterfeiting applications. The latest developments in this emerging area are thoroughly analyzed, and potential future uses are explored to inform ongoing research and innovation. The purpose of this research is to stimulate innovative investigations into thermochromic materials (TCMs) derived from polysaccharides and their improved functionalities, thereby advancing the creation of intelligent systems and materials.
