<p>Knowledge of the physiology of reproduction is essential for reproductive management of domestic animals. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between the degree of uterine edema when the follicle size is 35&#xa0;mm and the hormonal profile (estradiol-17β and progesterone) and pregnancy rate. Twenty-eight non-pregnant mares of the Dareshoor breed in the breeding season, 2–3&#xa0;days before ovulation by rectal ultrasound in the estrous phase (in follicular size of 35&#xa0;mm) divided into two equal groups with normal uterine edema (grades 2–3) and abnormal (degree 0 to 1). The serum hormonal profile in these two groups was measured by the ELISA method. <i>T</i>-test statistical models were used to compare the average of these hormones and the rate of pregnancy in two groups, as well as to compare these hormones in pregnant and non-pregnant mares. The average concentration of estradiol-17β and progesterone was determined as 49.05 ± 4.4&#xa0;pg/ml and 3.09 ± 0.59&#xa0;ng/ml, respectively. Mares with normal uterine edema had higher estradiol concentration (<i>p</i> &gt; 0.05) and lower progesterone (<i>p</i> = 0.02) than mares with abnormal edema. There was no significant difference between the pregnancy rates in the two groups. Although the concentration of estradiol and progesterone in the pregnant group was lower than the non-pregnant group, there was no significant difference between the two groups. The results of this study showed that uterine edema may be influenced by decreased progesterone rather than increased estrogen.</p>
