<p>Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an age-related disease in animals and man that leads to prostate enlargement which constricts the urethra to cause urinary outflow obstruction. The adverse effect of chemotherapy and surgery used in the treatment of the condition has led to the preference for phyto-therapeutics in its management. <i>Chromolaena odorata</i> is a medicinal plant that is known to have prostate protective properties. Thus, we investigated the changes and ameliorative effects associated with methanol extract of <i>Chromolaena odorata</i> (MECO) on some hematology and serum biochemistry parameters of rats with experimentally induced BPH. A total of forty-two 10–12 weeks old male Sprague–Dawley outbred albino rats (<i>Rattus norvegicus</i>) weighing 200–250 g were randomly assigned into six equal groups of seven rats each based on body weight as follows: A—control, B—testosterone propionate (TP) only, C—TP plus finasteride, D—TP plus 200 mg/kg (MECO), E—TP plus 400 mg/kg (MECO), and F—TP plus 800 mg/kg (MECO), once daily for 28 days. At the end of treatment, blood was collected for hematology and serum biochemical analysis. The packed cell volume (PCV), hemoglobin concentration (HBc), red blood cell (RBC), white blood cell (WBC), and lymphocyte and neutrophil counts in the untreated BPH Group B was significantly (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) higher compared to the uninduced control group A, while the MECO extract-treated groups D, E, and F showed a significantly (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) lower PCV, Hb concentration, RBC, WBC, and lymphocyte and neutrophil counts compared to the untreated BPH Group B. There was no significant difference (<i>P</i> &gt; 0.05) in liver enzyme Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities and total serum protein and albumin levels of rats across the groups. Group B showed a significant increase (<i>P</i> &lt; 0.05) in serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels when compared to the uninduced control group A and MECO-treated groups. Thus, the results of this study suggest that MECO has the potential to prevent stress, post-renal azotemia, and erythrocytosis associated with BPH.</p>
