<p>Effective health demand planning is essential for the fair and efficient distribution of resources. It requires indicators derived from public health data systems capable of identifying population needs and disparities in health care distribution. The global increase in cases of type&#xa0;2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) presents significant social, personal, and health challenges and affects Germany as well. Studies suggest that investigating the spatial distribution of diseases and their determinants can provide vital insights to enhance health care delivery. In this context, our paper examines the socioeconomic risk factors for T2DM prevalence and their spatial variation in Westphalia-Lippe, Germany. We analyzed diagnosed T2DM cases in conjunction with socioeconomic and geographic data concerning general practitioners for each postal code region. The study revealed significant disparities in T2DM prevalence between urban and rural regions. Moreover, it highlights that the spatial availability of general practitioners should be considered in future health care strategies to improve access to medical care. This knowledge can aid in developing targeted interventions for at-risk populations, thus contributing to equitable health care provision.</p>
