Purpose <p>Given the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on exercise tolerance of Breast Cancer survivor (BCS) and since IMT load is adjusted based on Maximal Inspiratory Pressure (MIP), the aim of this study was to evaluate MIP of BCS, compare it with the obtained from predictive equations for healthy women, and study the possible effects of physical activity level on it.</p> Methods <p>MIP was obtained from 50 BSC and compared with the theoretical values of MIP estimated through predictive equations of Black &amp; Hyatt, and Hautmann. BCS were categorized in 25 active and 25 sedentary according to HUNT1-PAQ questionnaire.</p> Results <p>Measured MIP (65.5 ± 23.9&#xa0;cm H<sub>2</sub>O) was significative lower than predicted by equations (21.4% and 14.0%, Black &amp; Hyatt and Hautmann equations, respectively), specially because of MIP of those BCS who did not meet the minimum physical activity recommended.</p> Conclusion <p>The results of this study clearly show than MIP is lower than the predicted by equations in BCS and suggests the importance of measuring it, not only for adjust the load of future IMT interventions, but also to evaluate the effects of exercise programs on it.</p>

Maximal inspiratory pressure in sedentary and active breast cancer survivors: an observational study

Purpose
