<p>Negative effects of hydropeaking on juvenile grayling (<i>Thymallus thymallus</i>) are well known. Scientific studies on other age classes are still lacking. This study focuses on the habitat selection of adult grayling in the Upper Inn River. Fish responses to changing flow conditions were recorded using telemetry. In addition, photogrammetric data of the study area were collected, and hydrodynamic models were calculated to determine flow velocity and water depth at sites selected or abandoned by grayling during hydropeaking induced changes of flow. Grayling respond actively to changes in flow, moving on average by about 21 m to find preferred habitat conditions such as moderate water depths (0.56–1.19 m) and flow velocities (0.57–1.27 m/s). The abandoned sites show significant differences in abiotic conditions. The results highlight the need for targeted restoration measures and adapted hydropeaking management to improve habitat quality for adult grayling.</p>
