<p>High-speed drives play a key role in many modern technologies, particularly in the field of fuel cells. However, the development of these drives represents a major technical challenge. The interactions between electromagnetic design, thermal conditions, rotor dynamics and strength must be considered. The development therefore requires close cooperation between different physical disciplines. Due to the high speeds and the required power density, the losses that occur must be modeled accurately. In addition, the development of efficient calculation methods poses a challenge with regard to computing time and optimizability. This paper provides an overview of the key components for efficient modelling of losses in high-speed drives and shows how advanced simulation techniques can contribute to the optimization of this complex system technology.</p>
