<p>The Hallstatt period cemetery of Getzersdorf an der Traisen, Lower Austria (HaC, c. 800–450 BC), was excavated between 1968 and 1972 and revealed approximately 90&#xa0;graves, containing a&#xa0;large amount of ceramic artefacts as well as bronze and iron fragments. Some pieces of the iron finds, most likely fibulae, were examined by metallographically.</p><p>The fibulae pieces are almost completely corroded because they are made of thin wires. The corrosion phenomena can be explained by scaling during cremation and by aqueous corrosion during storage in the ground. Occasionally, metallic iron was found, and its microstructure was examined.</p><p>Fragments from one grave were identified as a&#xa0;harp fibula. Other finds consist of only smaller fragments, making it impossible to determine the artefact type. Charcoal and bone fragments were detected in the corrosion products adhering to the pieces.</p>

The Hallstatt period cemetery of Getzersdorf an der Traisen, Lower Austria (HaC, c. 800–450 BC), was excavated between 1968 and 1972 and revealed approximately 90 graves, containing a large amount of ceramic artefacts as well as bronze and iron fragments. Some pieces of the iron finds, most likely fibulae, were examined by metallographically.

The fibulae pieces are almost completely corroded because they are made of thin wires. The corrosion phenomena can be explained by scaling during cremation and by aqueous corrosion during storage in the ground. Occasionally, metallic iron was found, and its microstructure was examined.
