<p>ASMET—“The Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials” founded in 1925 as the Eisenhütte Österreich (Iron and Steel Association of Austria), has been the central technical-scientific network of the Austrian iron and steel industry. With its renaming to ASMET, the organization expanded its technical-scientific activities to include the entire Austrian metal-producing and metal-processing industry. This article traces the development of the society from its early years and re-establishment after World War&#xa0;II up to the present day. It focuses on the work of the technical committees, which served as drivers of technological progress, standardization, and knowledge transfer. The article also presents the promotion of young talent, from the early factory schools to today’s student sections. Separate sections are dedicated to activities in the fields of research and development (R&amp;D), as well as the technical-scientific conferences and the journal Berg- und Hüttenmännische Monatshefte. Finally, the article summarizes the key future tasks of ASMET.</p>

ASMET—“The Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials” founded in 1925 as the Eisenhütte Österreich (Iron and Steel Association of Austria), has been the central technical-scientific network of the Austrian iron and steel industry.
