With milestones such as the development of the LD process in the 1950s, which set new standards worldwide, and a&#xa0;successful specialisation in high-quality steel products after the crises of the 1980s, the industry was able to secure its international competitiveness. At the same time, it has continuously strengthened its innovative power through close cooperation with research institutions and targeted investments in modern technologies. Today it faces the challenge of making its production climate-neutral to meet the requirements of the EU Green Deal and global climate targets. Innovative technologies such as hydrogen-based processes, electric arc furnaces, and circular economy concepts are central elements in this process. The transformation offers opportunities to position Austria as a&#xa0;pioneer in sustainable steel production. The successful implementation of these goals will not only secure the competitiveness of the industry but also make a&#xa0;significant contribution to global decarbonisation.</p>
