<p>Çekmeköy-Sultanbeyli Metro Line, which is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, is an 11 km underground metro line consisting of 16 km TBM tunnel (Tunnel Outer Diameter = 6.3 m.), 10 km NATM tunnel with eight underground stations. With the increase in metro investments in Istanbul, tunnel and geotechnical engineering gains importance, and geotechnical designs and applications specific to each project can be considered according to the different ground formations. The common goal of all designs is to control the deformations and protect the surrounding structures, to produce designs that are compatible with the work program of the metro project, to have a&#xa0;minimum impact on vehicle and pedestrian traffic, to provide economy, and to use limited working areas efficiently. The investigation boreholes for the design of the cross-over tunnel in the Sultanbeyli region of the Çekmeköy-Sultanbeyli Metro are examined; there is a&#xa0;filling layer at the top, stiff-very stiff hard clay under the filling layer, followed by a&#xa0;formation with a&#xa0;weathered claystone/sandstone unit (arkose). At Sultanbeyli Station, which is the last station of the metro project, the pedestrian tunnel locations were revised due to an architectural change. To connect the relocated tunnels to the existing platform tunnels, it became necessary to break the permanent final lining. The arkose layer, weak ground conditions, the underground water level, capacity of final lining concrete and rebar, and the size of the tunnels were important challenges for this method statement.</p>
