<p>Insufficient literature was collected on the morphometrics of canine mandibles and their clinical value during regional anesthesia. The mandible as part of the facial skeleton has a unique morphology, characteristic of each skull typology which plays an important role in taxonomy. We described the size and shape differences of the mandible of mongrel dog (mesocephalic breed) as well as German shepherd dog (dolichocephalic breed), in addition to the positions of mental and mandibular foramina in both dogs. Our findings will provide accurate topographic landmarks for an effective local anesthetic block of the mental and inferior alveolar nerves during head surgery and dental extraction as an application of applied anatomy. They will contribute to comparative anatomy, veterinary forensic medicine, and the morphology database on dog breeds. A total of 10 adult (5 mongrel/ 5 German shepherd) dogs mandibles of both sexes, and without skeletal disorders were examined macro-anatomically and measured morphometrically using digital vernier caliper. 11 parameters were evaluated between both species, and statistical analysis. It was determined that the mean length and height of the mandibles in mongrel and German shepherd dogs were 13.5 ± 0.19&#xa0;cm, 8.34 ± 0.04&#xa0;cm and 14.45 ± 0.02&#xa0;cm, 7.01 ± 0.05&#xa0;cm, respectively. Distance from the lateral alveolar root to the mental foramen was 1.47 ± 0.10&#xa0;cm in mongrel dog and 2.42 ± 0.01&#xa0;cm in German shepherd. Distance from the mandibular foramen to the base of the mandible and angular process of the mandible in mongrel dog were 1.32 ± 0.01&#xa0;cm, 1.61 ± 0.01&#xa0;cm, and 1.12 ± 0.02&#xa0;cm, 1.57 ± 0.02&#xa0;cm in German shepherd.</p>
