Objectives <p>The goal of this study was to analyze the surgical efficacy and application value of using autologous materials (pedicled nasal mucosal flaps) as the main repair material for cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea under nasal endoscopy in our department in the past 5 years.</p> Methods <p>A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea repair at our department between 1st February 2019 to 28th February 2024. Preoperative nasal endoscopy, computed tomography (CT) and/or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed to determine the location of the leak.</p> Results <p>A total of 25 patients were included consisting of 11 males (44%) and 14 females (56%), with age range from 8 to 57 years (39.8 ± 12.64 years). 21 cases (84%) were spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid leaks and 4 cases (16%) were traumatic leaks. The most common intraoperative defect site was ethmoid sinus (36%), followed by the sphenoid sinus (32%). The materials used for repair included pedicled nasoseptal flap (68%), middle turbinate mucosal flap (54%), artificial dura mater (76%), and fat grafts (12%). No Postoperative complications were observed in any of the patients. Overall, successful primary repair was achieved in all 25 patients, with the majority of cases employing a multilayered reconstruction method (96%).</p> Conclusion <p>The use of pedicled nasal mucosal flaps and artificial dura mater in the endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea displays excellent success rates.</p>
