摘要

The restructuring of the German hospital system, as initiated by the Hospital Care Improvement Act (Krankenhausversorgungsverbesserungsgesetz – KHVVG),is expected to have far-reaching implications for healthcare institutions across the country. Mandates for the provision of specific care will no longer be awarded to hospitals via specialist departments as before, but in future via service groups, each governed by specific quality standards. Cardiovascular disciplines—most notably cardiac surgery and cardiology—will have to deal with this system of service groups and, depending on their own status, also take into account the special requirements for specialized hospitals. The conversion of hospital financing to a mix of financing provision and performance-oriented financing will lead to a redistribution of financial resources among hospitals and thus also influence their economic situation and strategic positioning.
