<p>This contribution presents, for the first time, a&#xa0;discipline-specific exemplary scope of practice for physician assistants (PAs), based on the 2025 position paper of the German Medical Association on <i>Physician assistance—An established professional role in </i>Germany [<CitationRef CitationID="CR1">1</CitationRef>] and the position paper of the German Society for Thoracic, Cardiac, and Vascular Surgery (DGTHG) [<CitationRef CitationID="CR2">2</CitationRef>]. In the form of an executive summary it outlines the scope of practice for PAy in general wards and operating rooms within the field of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery, differentiating core, advanced and specialized competencies. This framework can serve as a&#xa0;transferable model for implementation in other medical specialities.</p>

This contribution presents, for the first time, a discipline-specific exemplary scope of practice for physician assistants (PAs), based on the 2025 position paper of the German Medical Association on Physician assistance—An established professional role in Germany [1] and the position paper of the German Society for Thoracic, Cardiac, and Vascular Surgery (DGTHG) [2]. In the form of an executive summary it outlines the scope of practice for PAy in general wards and operating rooms within the field of cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery, differentiating core, advanced and specialized competencies. This framework can serve as a transferable model for implementation in other medical specialities.
