The aortic organ, as the central conduction organe exhibits a unique pathophysiological profile due to its biomechanical and embryological properties. The 2023 EACTS/STS guidelines define standardized, evidence-based diagnostic and treatment algorithms for optimization of patient care.</p> Objective <p>The aim of this study is to provide a&#xa0;structured overview of the latest guideline recommendations on the diagnostics, risk stratification and treatment of acute and chronic aortic syndromes. Special emphasis is placed on the role of interdisciplinary aortic centers, modern endovascular techniques and long-term functional monitoring for avoidance of end-organ damage.</p> Results <p>In the EACTS/STS guidelines, the aorta was defined for the first time as an independent organ. Additionally, a standardized classification of acute and chronic aortic syndromes was introduced, for example through the TEM classification, the GERAADA score, and the use of the Ishimaru zones. Electrocardiogram-triggered computed tomographic angiography is considered the gold standard diagnostic modality. In addition to therapeutic treatment options, both surgical and detailed conceptual strategies for improving end-organ protection are discussed.</p> Conclusion <p>The latest guideline recommendations emphasize an interdisciplinary, patient-centered treatment. Advances in imaging-based diagnostics, standardized classification and optimized treatment selection enable an improved patient stratification and improve the long-term outcomes.</p>

Objective
