<p>This article deals with the role of surgical technical assistance (OTA) in cardiac surgery and the multiprofessional cooperation in thre cardiac surgery operating room (OR). In addition to the tasks of the OTA, various facets of this occupational profile are elucidated and the positive and challenging aspects in the profession are discussed. A special focus is on the cooperation of cardiac surgeons with colleagues from other disciplines, such as anesthesia and cardiac perfusion.</p>
