Research progress on AI-assisted screening and prediction of systemic diseases based on retinal images

This review comprehensively summarizes the latest advancements in AI-assisted screening and prediction of systemic diseases using retinal images, encompassing cardiovascular disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, kidney disease, and neurodegenerative diseases. By analyzing existing studies, we underscore the strengths of AI technology in improving screening accuracy and prediction efficiency, while also pointing out current limitations and future directions. Additionally, recommendations are provided for clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to advance the use of AI-enhanced retinal imaging in systemic disease management.
