Exogenous GA3 Enhances Fruit Size, Bioactive Compounds, and Texture in “Chunhua” Loquat by Modulating Phytohormones and Phenylpropanoids Dynamics
摘要
Loquat fruits are rich in compounds, contributing to their health benefits. “Chunhua” loquats, the promising commercial novel germplasm which flower in spring, are able to circumvent cold damage, while their small fruit size and rough texture limit industrial applications. In this study, fruit clusters of the new strain “Chunhua No.26” were treated by immersion in either gibberellic acid (GA3) solution (20 mg·L− 1) or water (control) to evaluate the effects of exogenous GA3 on fruit quality. The results showed that compared with the control, GA3-treated fruits at maturity showed significant increases in fruit weight (34.30%), vertical diameter (8.52%), and transverse diameter (11.09%). However, GA3 treatment did not affect the contents of total soluble solid, soluble sugar and titratable acid in mature fruits. Notably, compared to the control, GA3 treatment increased the contents of ascorbic acid, phenol, carotenoid in mature fruit by 4.42%, 29.76%, and 11.60%, respectively, and promoted DPPH and FRAP by 15.87% and 12.56%, respectively, while reduced lignin content by 15.55%. The decrease of lignin and coniferyl alcohol contents causing by lower expression of EjCAD in GA3 treated mature fruits was act as an improvement in granular texture. Additionally, exogenous GA3 significantly elevated endogenous GA3, IAA, and JAME contents during development, whereas decreased GA4, ABA, and ZR contents at maturity. Furthermore, GA3 treatment regulated the expressions of multiple fruit size-related genes, especially EjFWL1, EjSAUR22 and EjSAUR26. In summary, exogenous GA3 promoted “Chunhua” loquat fruit size, nutraceutical value and refine fruit texture by modulating phytohormones and phenylpropanoids dynamics, suggesting its potential for loquat industry.
