<p>Guava is a versatile and nutrient-rich fruit crop that predominantly self-pollinates, although a substantial proportion (35–40%) undergoes natural cross-pollination, thereby masking the potential influence of pollen parents on fruit traits. A comprehensive study was designed, involving 16 reciprocal crosses between four genotypes: Punjab Apple Guava (AG), Punjab Kiran (PK), Taiwan Pink (TP), and Punjab Safeda (PS) to investigate this hidden impact of pollen parent. The findings revealed that pollen parents PK and PS significantly increased the fruit size, whereas AG and TP reduced seed number among different cross combinations. Similarly, both PK and AG pollen increased TSS in TP hybrids (9.75°Brix and 9.79°Brix, respectively). The maximum ascorbic acid content was observed in AG × PK (211.96&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;g), while the minimum was recorded in TP × TP (167.1&#xa0;mg/100&#xa0;g). All hybrids exhibited positive a<b>*</b> values for pulp color, indicating varying degrees of redness, which was most pronounced in PK × PS (35.26) and least evident in PS × PS (1.21) whereas for peel colour maximum a* value was recorded in AG × AG and minimum value was recorded in TP × TP. Correlation analysis demonstrated significant positive associations among fruit length, width and weight, while TSS was negatively correlated with seed traits. Interestingly, significant negative correlation was observed between fruit pulp colour and seed parameters. Thus, the study provides crucial insight into metaxenia mediated improvements in guava, offering clear guidance to breeders for selecting parental combinations to enhance fruit size, sweetness, pulp/skin colour and nutritional quality. This work further strengthens the foundation for developing premium quality hybrids tailored for fresh consumption and processing and highlights opportunities for future genetic improvement programs targeting high market value traits.</p>
