Meta-Analysis of Maize Adaptation to Salt Stress: Key Gene Expressions and Regulatory Pathways
摘要
Salt stress significantly limits maize yield, yet the mechanisms of maize’s response to salt stress remain poorly understood. Several studies have profiled gene expression under salt stress conditions to investigate these mechanisms. In this study, we conducted a meta-analysis of seven publicly available datasets to identify genes responsive to salt stress and uncover potential regulators that influence those responsive genes. We identified 1553 differentially expressed genes consisting of 878 up-regulated and 675 down-regulated genes. Our results highlight the interplay between various biological processes, including respiration and photosynthesis-related pathways, potassium ion transmembrane transport, and hyperosmotic salinity response. By overlaying these results with a motifs dataset, we further narrowed down the candidate genes into two distinct groups. Specifically, we identified two groups of genes, each containing two similar regulatory motifs. These candidate genes can be further investigated to enhance maize tolerance to salt stress.
